The Nature Guide
Danielle is a passionate nature guide who finds her greatest joy exploring the wild landscapes of South Africa. Equally at home in the bush or by the sea. She delights in observing animals, wide open vistas and the subtle details that make the outdoors magical. A lifelong learner with a wide range of skills. Danielle thrives on adventure, travel, and sharing her deep love for her country’s natural beauty with guests. Her enthusiasm and curiosity inspire visitors to experience the world with wonder and appreciation.
JOHAN
The Nature Guide & Chef
Johan has turned his lifelong love of the African bush into a career as a nature guide with a keen eye for wildlife, birds and the smallest wonders of nature. He enjoys capturing these moments through photography. Johan is also a talented chef passionate about Indian, Thai and traditional South African cuisine often incorporating fresh in season ingredients from his own garden. Warm, curious and attentive. He brings both culinary delight and a genuine appreciation for the natural world to every adventure.
SHAUN
The Guide & Fire Specialist
Shaun is the team’s dedicated bush guide and fire maker ensuring every campfire experience is perfect. He finds peace and inspiration in the bushveld where he spends hours immersed in nature, listening to birdsong and observing wildlife. An avid hiker and rock climber. Shaun’s background in geography allows him to share fascinating insights about landscapes, geology and local ecosystems. Grounded, knowledgeable and endlessly curious. He adds both expertise and a welcoming presence to every journey.
MATTHEW
The Photographer & Videographer
Matthew is the team’s roving photographer and videographer capturing the essence of every adventure. When not exploring the bush, he travels the world on private yachts, enjoying spear fishing, surfing and scuba diving. In the wild, he patiently seeks the perfect shot. Documenting wildlife, landscapes and stories that bring every place to life. Adventurous, observant and creative. Matthew ensures that guests leave with unforgettable memories and stunning visuals of their journey.
Seldom have we been so immersed in an experience of nature, as with our time with Johan. He is both knowledgeable and passionate and we found his company added enormously to our adventures in the bush and our camaraderie around the bush fire at night.
An outstanding chef and a raconteur of note, the tales he had to tell, with his wry sense of humor, bought the bush alive! He engaged us individually with all our interests – be it photography, birding, trees or searching for the Big 5.
We yearn to be back on an adventure with Adrift Africa and look forward to rekindling the friendships we have made.

To my Canadian Prairie eyes, which are used to views of wide-open spaces, level terrain, and limited wildlife, I was impressed with Johan’s ability to spot game at great distances. It took me several minutes to adjust my focus to see what he saw. This did improve as time passed. I still did not reach his level of recognition.
We were early to rise as sighting is best in early morning. We were not disappointed. Giraffe, zebra, buffalo, elephant, kudu, Impala, wild dog, hyena, hippopotamus, warthog, wildebeest, waterbuck, steenbok, and crocodile, not to mention countless birds.
